GOD'S GREAT PLAN Isaiah 49:5-9 NKJV “And now the Lord says, Who formed Me from the womb [to be] His Servant, To bring Jacob back to Him, So that Israel is gathered to Him (For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, And My God shall be My strength), 6 Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’”
The promises of God are majestic in their grandeur. Their depth cannot be fathomed and reach far beyond the finite comprehension or hope of man. One can only stand in awe contemplating His Purpose and methodology. God has an Eternal Purpose which transcends all His Works. It is the governing paradigm for all His dealings with man. God loved Abraham and made an everlasting covenant with him which would be kept with all generations for the sake of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The promises were specific and at first glance seem limited to the natural realm and Abraham’s descendants. However, there was more involved. There was a greater Purpose in view.
Isaiah said the Lord sending Jesus is greater in scope than redeeming Israel and establishing the New Covenant with them. In the ages passed He chose to bless the nations and recover all mankind to Himself. In Abraham a choice vessel was found through which the Divine Purpose could be achieved. The whole of mankind, all nations are blessed, not merely one family! Redemption is for all men and includes all of creation. Jesus said, “God so loved the WORLD . . .(John 3:16)” not just Israel!” Although committed to Abraham and his descendants His Purpose encompasses all mankind. As He dealt with Abraham so He does with all His servants. He has chosen to use men in accomplishing His Eternal Purpose. When an assignment, a revelation or direction from the Lord comes one can be sure that in His economy there are greater implications and a broader impact realized than can be appreciated at the time. To the Apostle Paul was revealed the inclusion of the Gentiles. All who believe in Jesus Christ are declared to be of the faith of Abraham and therefore his children!! This is beyond blood line!
Isaiah gives a glimpse into the nature of God and His dealings with man. His promises may apply to one’s situation and calling and family just as with Abraham. But one can rest assured the fulfillment of them may reach much further. One’s calling may seem to be of little value or effect in the great scheme of things. If left undone will not be greatly missed. But God says, “despise not small beginnings” and to the man who buried his one talent, gaining no increase, there was more than a word of rebuke.
